Georgia Cyberattacks Linked to Russian Organized Crime

A year ago the country of Georgia was hit with an organized cyber attack that strategically targeted 54 Georgian Web sites just prior to Russia launching its military attack. The cyber attacks began before the first news came of the Russian military attacks on Georgia. While it appears the Russian government did not conduct the cyber attack it appears the cyber attacks were initiated through civilian Russian nationalists with low-level encouragement from the Russian government. Sites other than Vietnam and China that provide filters for its citizens include Burma, Cuba, North Korea, Egypt, Iran Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Another country that recently attempted to use Websense to block traffic, until Websense refused was Yemen.
